Alive in Christ Religious Education

July 1st, 2018 by Church News

We are very excited to share with you our new Religious Education Program called
“Alive in Christ.” Beginning in September, “Alive in Christ” will
replace the current format we had been using. This program, which has been
developed within the last year by educators, child psychologists, clergy and
parents, incorporates the following:Multi-sensory learningHands-on activitiesThe
incorporation of music and the other arts in each lessonInteractive online
activities and games for students to explore at homeOnline resources for parents
that coincide with the student lessonsA family connection and opportunities for
family discussions at homeLessons that follow the Church Liturgical
CalendarOne-hour long sessions – once a week from mid-September through
AprilOngoing training and resources for catechists Returning Students:Parents of
children who were enrolled in our Religious Education program last year will
receive a letter in the mail in a few weeks with a schedule for the upcoming
year. Class Sessions:All classes will be held on Monday afternoon/evenings
either in the church or rectory. Grades 1, 2 & 3 will meet from 4:45 –
5:45, grades 4,5 & 6 will meet from 6:00 – 7:00 and grades 7 & 8 will
meet from 7:15 – 8:15. Confirmation classes will be held once a month on
Sunday evenings. Home Study:Although not encouraged, we will be offering a Home
Study option once again this year for children who have a commitment that would
interfere with the day/time of the class session. It is not necessary for a
child to be in Home Study all year. If the conflict is only for a short period
of time they may join or re-join the class once the conflict is over. New
Students:Parents of students new to the program should register your
child/children by calling the rectory office at (203) 265-1694 or by seeing Joe
Tatta after Mass. This applies to transfer students and those entering Grade
more teachers for the Alive in Christ program. The commitment would be one hour
once a week on a Monday afternoon/evening. Lesson plans, resources, activities
and ongoing training will be provided. We are open to the idea of team-teaching
with two or more teachers per class. If you are interested, or would like more
information, please contact Joe Tatta at (203) 265-1694 or
or see him after Mass. Your help would greatly be appreciated!
