Baptism

Congratulations on the birth of your child!

Our Baptismal Program is designed to welcome the newest member of your family into our parish family. There are two aspects to this program. One is the preparation phase, and the second is the celebration phase.

PREPARATION

Parents should call the rectory (203-265-1694) at least 3 months before the anticipated date of the Baptism. Information will be taken at that time.

Before the child’s Baptism, first-time parents are required to attend a pre-Baptism meeting. Godparents are encouraged to attend but it’s not required. The purpose of this meeting is to review the Baptism Rite, discuss the responsibilities surrounding the sacrament, and exchange ideas for making this event both joyful and meaningful.

The meeting will last approximately one hour.

To avoid problems or hurt feelings among family and friends, please make sure you choose Godparents that they are at least 16 years of age and have made the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. If they are married, the marriage must be recognized by the Catholic Church. One person may be a non-Catholic Christian (they would be listed as a Christian Witness).  Godparents need to complete and submit a Sponsor Certificate prior to the date of Baptism. CELEBRATION

The Sacrament of Baptism is currently being celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at 12:00pm. Beginning in November 2025, Baptisms at Resurrection will be held on the first Saturday of the month at 12:00pm.

A member of the Baptismal Committee will assist you on the day of Baptism. You are encouraged to invite as many people as you want to this ceremony.

Photographs are encouraged and welcomed.

There is no fee for Baptism but a donation may be given to the church if desired.
